French Walk of Fame

Ah, Paris in the Spring. What better time to stroll through one of this city's famous landmarks. The Pere Lachaise cemetery. Cemetery? Yes, you read correctly. This was definitely a must-do on my mile long list the last time I visited Paris. It did not disappoint this French Language and Literature bachelor of arts holder. I felt like a star-dazed tourist looking for footprints at Grauman's Chinese Theater. I had a "map of stars" only my stars were Victor Hugo, Baudelaire, Simone de Beauvoir, La Fontaine, Moliere, Balzac, Marcel Proust, and others I had deeply studied in college. It was an awesome experience to somewhat pay homage to these great French writers. The added highlights were Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Sarah Bernhardt and The Doors' own Jim Morrison. Jim's grave is tiny and tricky to find, but once you see all the tiny candles you've found it. It's a beautiful cemetery; very tranquil and well kept. Just don't trip over any of the stray cats who also find the cemetery intriguing. Supposedly Pere Lachaise is the most visited cemetery in the world! I'm glad we made this stop on our trip. It was a memorable experience for me.
