I've been tagged.

The Queen Bee and Her Boys
tagged me with 10 things no one knows about me. The Queen told 10 things about the 2 Hollywood legends and the King of Pop so I'll start out with those, too, but may not have 10.

1- I remember Ed McMahon mainly from being the host of Star Search. I loved that show!!! I probably saw Britney Spears on it because I watched every show. Hmm. First reality show for Pink???

2- I, too used to play Charlie's Angels with my neighbor friends and we also fought over who got to be Jill! Although I never did the feather thing with my hair.

3- Whenever I hear PYT, I always think of my brother. If you remember in the middle of the song that strange high-pitched squeal/sound that hums for a while, whatever it is...well my brother could do that sound and it sounded EXACTLY like the song. Never forgot that.

4- In high school a guy named Ben helped teach my jazz class. He was one of the dancers (behind the black/white striped shirt guy) in the Beat It video!! We thought he was God. So cool!

5- When my mom traded in her Camero for a brand new Datsun 280ZX, we listened to the Thriller TAPE with the T tops out all the way home singing to the tops of our lungs. This entire sentence completely dates me!!! I just realized my mom was 37 and I was 14. Scary.

6- One night at a sleepover, my friend and I stayed up soooo late choreographing a baton dance to Billy Jean in her kitchen. I think we thought we were good enough for Star Search!

7- Both of my kids (one has been with my parents and the other with me) are scared of the pictures the media are showing of MJ. Mini#1 finally admitted to my mom that he was afraid of having nightmares of MJ! Mini#2 keeps saying he's "scared of that man with the white face." I showed him youtube videos last Friday and he liked Beat It and Billy Jean. "He doesn't look scary there". This man is an icon! I hate that he suffered so many setbacks late in his life.

8- I'm a lefty. I have to be on the left side of the bed. My sink is the left one in the bathroom. In restaurants, I sit on the outside, usually on the left, so I don't bump others.

9- I don't drink coffee, but love coffee ice cream and frozen coffee drinks. When I took away all the caffeine in our house about 9 years ago, my husband started drinking coffee!

10- I'm a creature of habit. I sit in the same area at the pool, church, etc.
Shopping in the grocery store, I always start on same side and finish on the same side of the store.

I tag:

Preppy Mama (if you have time)
Three for Tippy (if you have time)
Pink Cashmere Cardigan
Pink Pearls and Martinis
Cancer Sucks Even with Lilly Pulitzer on Yuor Side

Randomness

Happy Monday. I hope your weekend was fun and relaxing.

This weekend mini#1 returned and I got the biggest grin and hug I'd gotten from him in a long time. It felt great. Even so, he's maturing and independent and didn't seem to miss us too much! He was too busy having fun 24/7.

We had friends over for dinner Saturday night with their 2 year old son. My minis loved playing with him. I made sangria for the first time- a white one. It was very tasty! The recipe called for topping off glasses with sparkling water, but I forgot. It was fine without it!

I kept the church nursery (young 3's) yesterday and when all classes gathered for children's theater, I immediately picked out mini#2 in the crowd waving at me. I sat there watching him for 15 mins. sing, smile and wave at me from across the room of kids. It was one of those feel good moments as a mom.

I won Pink Martinis and Pearls' Come Fly With Me giveaway. Totally a surprise as I checked emails late yesterday! Check out her fun blog if you haven't. We each have a son with the same name, too! Thank you so much Mrs. Pink. Now I need to plan a getaway!

This is our last week of mini#1's summer break. Next Tuesday he starts 3rd grade! Wow! This week will be full of last minute shopping, the Marble Museum, the pool and meeting Mr. Pink for lunch with the minis.

And that's it for now. Working on a tag I got from Queen Bee. Still thinking of 3 more things to add!

I admit it.

I miss my baby. Mini#1 has been with my parents since Tuesday (having loads of fun being spoiled). I took him to Carowinds (theme park) Monday and we had the best time! He is such a happy, fun kid. It's contagious when you're around him. When I've spoken to him on the phone this week he sounds so precious and young. I miss him! We meet my parents halfway to pick him up tomorrow. Can't wait!! Neither can his "brudder". He has also felt the "missing mini#1 blues". Have a great weekend!

Sad week for Hollywood

First Ed McMahon.

Today Farrah Fawcett.

Then just heard Michael Jackson has been rushed to the hospital in LA. Just heard he died. WOW!

It's hard hearing the news of all these celebrities of my childhood.

Conversations with a 4 yr old

Mini#2: Mom, can I have a surf board (he meant skateboard) and a ramp when I get older?
Me: Maybe.
Mini#2: What does 'maybe' mean?
Me: It means we'll think about it when you get older.
Mini#2: Oh. I get confused with 'maybe' and 'I guess.' (I can be vague in my responses!)

Mini#2: Mom, will you be my girlfriend?
Me: Of, course I'll be your girlfriend sweet baby!
Mini#2: What exactly does a girlfriend do?
Me: (Too surprised and stumped by the question to respond so I just laughed hysterically!)

Mini#2 (at the golf course waiting on brother's lessons to finish): Mom, she's beautiful (after seeing a teen-aged cart girl park her cart and walk by us into the pro shop).
Me: (Laughing as usual as his admiration for 'older' women) Maybe you need to tell her.
Mini#2: (shyly looking away as she passed us to get back in her cart). "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL." (yelling at her as she drove off- not hearing his exclamation)
Me: You told her too late.
Mini#2: She was too fast! That's why I needed you to tell her!!
I guess I'm his wingman(gal).

This kid cracks me up. And, in case you were wondering, he has continued to wake up dry in his underwear (almost 3 weeks). Dare I say my pull-up buying days are officially over?

**I jinxed us. I was summoned by him at 4:17 a.m. this morning to change wet underwear and pj's, but he stopped himself because the sheets were still dry! Hopefully, this was a minor accident.

Word Wednesday

Did you watch part 1 of the reunion last night? What did you think? I still love Teresa (incorrect English and all). She's a shopper. My kind of girl except my wallet isn't full of endless cash. I feel sorry for Jacqueline caught in the middle of Danielle drama, but love that woman's thick, pretty hair. Danielle just needs to leave. Caroline needs to ease up a bit. And Dina really has a husband I learned (just wanted no part of filming). Can't wait for part 2. That's when it's going to be heated! And I loved how the "family" sat on one side and Teresa got stuck sitting with Danielle on the opposite couch.

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day Mr. Pink and all of the blog world dads! Yesterday we spent a family day at the pool. We had a steak dinner last night (his request) and today after church, he'll get some time alone. He plans to continue work on installing bookcases and cabinets in our bonus room. I'll post when he's finished. They're looking great!

I'm off to Charlotte this afternoon with the minis so I'll get to see my dad on Father's Day. Then I'm taking mini#1 to Carowinds (theme park) Monday. On Tuesday mini#2 and I will return home leaving mini#1 with my parents all week for some special time (alone sans mini#2) with his grandparents. He's looking forward to it.
Be back in a few days.

Wish I was....

....in Paris today.

Instead I'm off to haircut appointments for the minis. Then we're off to lunch at Red Robin to say goodbye to a playgroup friend who is moving to Florida. I'd much rather be museum hopping, croissant sampling, and couture shopping in my favorite city!

Incentives really work (eventually)

I don't know if you remember my frustrations with mini#2 reverting back to wetting at night. He had gone two months DRY (in underwear) at night (otherwise potty-trained for months and months)and then started wetting again back in early February. It was after MIL passed away so could have been related to that. Back to the pull-ups we went. After about two weeks with no change, I decided I would offer an incentive. He LOVES mini#1's Webkinz animals and has two himself. I told him if he could go five dry nights in a row then I would take him to get a Webkinz. His other two were gifts so he was very excited about making his own selection. So from mid-Feb until now he has had a few nights dry, then wet. Never the five days in a row. FINALLY, last week, on vacation of all times, he went the entire week dry in pull-ups. I gave him one final test Sunday night when we returned home from the beach. We put on the underwear and said goodbye to the pull-ups. DRY!!! So between 15,000 loads of laundry on Monday, mini#1 and I took him to the store to select his well-earned Webkinz. What did he choose??? A strange looking guinea pig that he named Gavin after a friend in preschool. Gavin the guinea pig, we gladly welcome you into our home!!! And, hopefully, I will never see, use, or buy another pull-up again.

Ouch and a public service announcement

This morning I loaded up the minis and off to the pediatric dentist we went. Mini#1 had four teeth extracted with the help of a little laughing gas and a Spongebob movie to distract him. Mini#2 discovered video games in the waiting area and informed me that I had to get him a video game because he was "very good at it." Right now mini#1 is going through gauze like crazy and once that Novocaine wears off, he is going to feel some pain. Just gave him some Motrin because we've already shed some tears. Ouch!

And that leads me to my blog's public service announcement. Mamas don't let your babies suck their thumbs! EVER! This led to the overcrowding in mini#1's mouth and my baby wouldn't stop sucking that thumb until right after he turned 6! You better believe I stuffed a pacifier (binky) in mini#2's mouth mere seconds after he was born. HOWEVER, you must stop with the pacifier by 18 months (or earlier if possible). I did and what a difference! And, no pacifier when no crying! Only sleep times and when crying. It kills me to see 3 yr olds happily running around a playground with a pacifier in their mouth. That's just a habit and not used for its purpose. This is my blog and just my opinions, but trust me on this one. Otherwise, you'll be paying $700 to get 4 teeth yanked out of your kid's mouth. I'm just saying....

Reflections on our week at the beach.

In no random order:

1- High school boys are really trying for the Zac Efron look these days. I wish I had packed scissors in my beach bag so I could offer bang trimmings to a few.

2- We are a very competitive family when it comes to miniature golf. And we may or may not have a couple of cheaters amongst us!

3- I appear to be in the slim minority of girls/women who do not have tattoos.

4- My kids seemed to be the loudest no matter where we went. Note to self. Make appointments for ENT doctor to check hearing. They weren't misbehaving (well a few exceptions). They're just LOUD!

5- Bikinis come in all sizes and all sizes wear them.

6- My normal stressful photo session on the beach with the minis at sunset was not so stressful this year. It had started to sprinkle so I snapped as many as I could before a downpour (without yelling pose directions!) and the few I took turned out better than the millions I've taken in the past. And there were no tears from the kids or me!

7- Key Lime Martinis are quite tasty.

8- Mini#2 hates my ponytail. This started last summer, but he took it to another level of hate this week. "I don't like your hair that way and I won't kiss you until you take it down!" However, in joking, mini#1 suggested I wear Dorothy pigtails. In joking, I put my hair in pigtails AND mini#2 LOVED it. I felt 3 years old, but I wore pigtails to the beach that day (under a wide brimmed hat)and I didn't hear mini#2 complaining every 20 mins or so about my ponytail! Go figure!

9- USA, more specifically in this east coast beach area, really is the land of the all-you-can-eat-buffets and you would never know our economy is in the toilet by looking at the cars in the parking lots!

10- It's always nice to get away, but it's even nicer to return home and sleep in your own bed!

I did what?

I actually got up at 7:15 this morning, put on my running shoes and went running on the beach. In all honesty, I ran for a quarter of a mile and then walked (semi power walking) for a long time, but I did it! It was nice being by myself, listening to tunes and seeing the beach wake up. Do you do this? Frankly, I'm surprised I woke up at all because we took the minis to ride the rides last night and they didn't get to bed until 11:00!!! But, we are on vacation and I remember the thrill of the rides at the beach as a child. Mini#2 was thrilled to ride the big ferris wheel. Mr. Pink not so much. We both were a little queasy on that one! Mini#1 and I rode the roller coaster and I may need an appt at the chiropractor when we return, but, all in all, we had a very good time and they slept well. I just now hear them waking up. It's 8:57!! Ok, off for another day of leisure. Meeting two friends for dinner later. Will be fun! Have a good day!

Off to the park

Our playgroup is meeting at a popular park near my university today. They have a train, a carousel, kiddie boat rides, swings and ducks to feed. So we're off with a picnic lunch and money for the rides. Just mini#1, my kitten and me. Yes, mini#2 thinks he's a kitten this morning. He's been crawling all over the floor and meowing like crazy! Driving me a little crazy! Have a great day!
