Five on Friday!

I absolutely love Fridays. Always have. Especially when I was working outside the home, but still do now that I'm a SAHM. Right now I'm unwinding from the crazy week. This morning I told mini#1 to "Get out of your jammies and put on your jammies". Now that's crazy, but today was, after all, "Wear Your PJ's to School Day". Sounds like a recurring dream I used to have about going to school in pj's, but in 1st grade it's still very exciting. It's the end of Dr. Seuss week. Amen to that! I made him wear fresh jammies, too. I wonder how many kids rolled out of bed and went as they were. Anyway, Hubby is putting the kids to bed right now and I'm listening to all my favorites as I type. I've got John Mayer, 2 Diana Krall cd's, Norah Jones (kind of depressing though) and Michael Buble' going. After taking 2 kids to Target and Michael's in the pouring rain this afternoon, I need some soothing tunes to untangle my nerves...

Anyway, I thought I'd start a new thing I've seen from other blogs (can't remember which or I'd give credit!) and do a list of 5 random things about me on Fridays.

1- I have to sleep on "my" side of the bed wherever Hubby and I go- in-law's, vacations, hotels, etc. I don't feel right unless I'm on my side.

2- I've been to a million football games, but still don't know all the rules of the game. This is strange because, for some reason, I know a lot of trivia regarding sports/athletes. I impress my husband with this knowledge.

3- I was obsessed with the Royal Family of England growing up. More specifically Princess Diana, but I knew about all the others, too. I made all kinds of scrapbooks on Princess Diana and her boys. My son was born on Queen Elizabeth's Birthday, but this was not planned.

4-I had exactly 8 hours of labor with both sons. However, each labor was completely different! Water broke, water didn't break... I'll spare the other details.

5- I cannot stand reading directions for anything. I don't do maps. Only written out Mapquest directions for me. I also do not touch product assembly directions. After all, that's why I got married and had 2 sons. Now I'll never have to do anything like this myself.

Have a nice weekend!

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree

Isn't that what they say? I now think I fully understand this phrase. Boy did I learn a good lesson today. So here goes for all to enjoy. Let me start by saying that it's been a little warm in the south this week. Low 70's Mon, Tues and mid- 60's today. I decided to wear my old Birkenstocks with my jeans/t-shirt mommy attire today. Wow. I'd forgotten how good Birks feel on your feet! But I digress I bit. Has anyone else noticed how "I digress" is a frequent phrase on these blogs? Sorry. Still digressing. Ok, so after coming back from the bus stop I couldn't stand the sight of my winter toenails. I have a tiny bit of polish still hanging on from about January. I decided to polish them because...I don't know why. Just had a moment so I did. I found some dark wine colored polish in the bottom of my makeup drawer and THANK GOODNESS I stayed in my bathroom to beautify my toes. However, as I proceeded to take the cap off of the polish, all of a sudden, tornado(ish) winds whooshed through my bathroom sending the bottle sailing out of my hand and....deep breath....the polish landed all OVER tile, grout, cabinets and a few drops on a little wall by the cabinets. Did you catch that this was DARK WINE COLORED? I was stunned for a full 20 seconds before I frantically started saying "OH NO! OH NO! OH NO!" Yes, I controlled my tongue. Polish was in stringy lines all over my bathroom yet it missed my jeans and shirt. Wild. The above picture does not reflect the true mess. Well mini#2 came in about that time and said "What happen? Lew have an ackadent?" I had to admit that, yes, mommy had an accident. Well a bottle of Cutex, half a bag of cotton balls, paper towels and an almost 3 year old helped me clean up the mess. It was a major task though and the grout is still a little pinkish. However, I learned a good lesson. I can't get so upset at all of mini#2's messes. I told him that parents make mistakes, too. I told him even though he has accidents I still love him no matter what. I think my mess majorly outdid his entire list I gave a few posts back. What do you think?

P.S. It was so funny how he showed daddy where I made my "ackadent" and how he helped clean up. Now I'll leave with one final thought. After this happened I kept thinking all day what if this had happened on my beige bedroom carpet? I don't think I'd be writing a cute little post right now. So I'm thankful for a happy ending.

In case you needed to know...

I've got nothing today. However, in case you ever needed to know:

On this date, MARCH 4....

1881- Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the 16th President of U.S,
1933- Franklin D. Roosevelt was inaugurated as 32nd President of U.S.
2005- My favorite, Martha Stewart, left prison to serve her remaining sentence at home, baking cookies, making soap, and feeding her menagerie of animals. I added the last part in case you wondered.

And a good quote that, unfortunately, applies to me:

I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end. Margaret Thatcher

Birthdays Upon Us...

So we've been to a few b-day parties lately and Mini#1's is in April and Mini#2's is in 2 weeks. I can't even think about Mini#1's party at the moment. I'm finalizing details for Mini#2's right now. We're having a "Wild West" party and he'll wear the above shirt I got for a steal at Orient Expressed. Each child will be given a cowboy hat and bandanna to complete the "look". We're going to be making paper bag horse puppets and playing good old fashioned pin the tail on the donkey. I've told everyone to wear your cowboy/girl boots if you have them. I'm serving cowboy food- mini pigs in a blanket (I can't stand those, but don't they seem cow boyish?) and MAY make them root beer floats to imitate "sasparillas". What is sasparilla anyway? Beer? It may be too much for 3 yr olds though- to drink and to comprehend. I'm still thinking about the cake. I have always served cute bakery cakes, but kind of wanted to go the cupcake route this year. The only thing is I'm at a loss for an idea to fit the theme. Any ideas out there?
Hubby (I need a new nickname for him. Hubby sounds silly.) and I were laughing last night making fun of the ever so important gift bags. So far their bags will have a plastic pose able horse, a sheriff's badge, and a silly straw they may or may not use for "sasparillas". Still thinking of other items, but it won't be too much else since they will also have a nice new cowboy hat and bandanna to take home. Anyway, my main man (doesn't work either!) and I were brainstorming and started thinking of the gift bag we'd love to give these tiny tots, but definitely will NOT. They would include: candy cigarettes, "Big League Chew", can of beenie weenies (cowboy food!), a little beef jerky and maybe a Hank Williams Jr. cd. What do you think? Anyway it was a fun exercise. One of those really good laughs life throws at you. However, I will continue to be the responsible parent. So responsible that these "cowboys" won't even know what a gun is, but I guess they will learn about beer. Yikes. Maybe not. Well, most importantly, no fine southern tot will learn about guns at this house. It is funny though - a cowboy party without guns and Indians? What is our world coming to?
On a side note, I'm getting a little emotional. My BABY is going to be 3. I held him this morning and caught our reflection in the mirror. His body and legs are getting so big. Despite my obvious frustration with his blatant toddlerness lately, I love this little boy and his brother more than I could ever imagine. God's gifts to me for life. I am truly blessed to be their mother! I tell them all the time "I thank God for you". Mini#2 now says it to me on his own "Mommy I thank God for you". Music to my ears. Have a good rest of the weekend!

Leap Day!

Now Playing at the White house: Underdog

This is what we will watch tonight when we resume Family Movie Night. We all get into pj's, eat popcorn and watch movies in the dark on the wide screen. I hope we're making lasting memories.

It's Leap Day! I can't pass up the opportunity to post today since Feb. 29 only occurs every four years. Other than that I don't have a lot to say! It was a calm day. Hubby worked from home and surprised Mini#1 by going to his school for lunch. Hubby also put mini#2's medicine in some orange juice this morning and down it went...and stayed down! Yea! I need to give this man more credit! Actually a lot of credit. Last weekend he took the builder's florescent light out of our kitchen and replaced with 7 recessed lights. He already installed under cabinet lighting. He's very handy to have around. I need lots of light in my kitchen. This weekend he may paint Mini#1's room. He told me he's looking for a project.

Ok, off to dinner. I've given in and agreed to get pizza. Not my favorite, but I'm Pink in a sea of blue.

Continuation to last post...

Warning: This post isn't pretty.

Thursday- Mini#2 threw up all over cute frog sweater while taking his antibiotics this morning. Amazingly it missed all furniture, rugs, floors. Just on him. This was minutes before I had to drive Mini#1 to school. He does not like this medicine, but this was a first at throwing it up.

Thursday- bedtime. Mini#2 was doing a good job at taking his medicine when all of a sudden that look came across his face and then I instinctively put my hand under his mouth. Yep! He threw it up in my hand, but not nearly as much as this morning. Ewwwww. I didn't know I signed up for this part of motherhood. He did say "sooorrrry" both times. I scoured my hand raw afterwards.

This was day 7 of 10 for the medicine. I guess we'll both wear trash bags tomorrow morning before trying this again. Poor little man. Poor me.

I'm a good parent. I promise!

Here is a sampling of a few things my almost 3 yr old has done in the last 5 days. You be the judge. Is this normal?

1. Last Friday- he hit a whiffle ball (with a bat) into a pan on the stove while I was cooking.

2. Sunday- on the way out the door to a birthday party I touched his head and felt goop! I smelled it and determined it was baby shampoo. His brother said he was trying to wash his hair.
We went as is since we had no time to correct.

3. Monday- He went into the garage, dragged his brother's real golf clubs inside, and proceeded to start playing. I quickly dove for the clubs before divots appeared in my hardwoods.

4. Tuesday- I saw him eating something. When asked, he said it was cheese. What cheese? He can't reach where the cheese is kept. Upon investigation I discovered it was BUTTER that was on the counter from breakfast toast about 15 mins prior. Who eats chunks of butter and likes it?
Apparently mini#2.

5. Wednesday- while hurriedly running around after I threw on clothes for the bus stop, I found mini#2 quietly pouring out a small bottle of hand sanitizer onto his cute pirate toddler bag. I smelled his breath just in case he decided to sample any. All clear there. See. I'm a good parent.

6. Wednesday- late a.m. While I was gathering dry cleaning he walked into my bedroom, naked, and told me he needed new "big boy pants". The reason being he had pee-peed all over my foyer floor. The only good thing about this was he had found and changed into that NC State jersey and had pee-peed all over the front of it, too. Remember this is the jersey he wants to wear 24/7... the one I want to burn.

I swear these things happen at the weirdest times. It's not like I've locked myself in my room and given him free reign of the house. Thought about it, but haven't done it. This kid scares me sometimes. Where did he come from?
